Welcome to Exploring Computer Science!
Exploring Computer Science (ECS) will introduce you to the breadth of the field of computer
science.
It is an exploration of a wide variety of topics. Rather than focusing learning particular software tools or programming languages, you will focus on conceptual ideas of computing to help you understand why certain tools or languages might be utilized to solve particular problems.
The goal of ECS is to let you develop the computational thinking practices of algorithm development, problem solving and programming
within the context of problems that are relevant to the real life.
You will also be introduced to topics such as interface design, limits of computers, as well as societal and ethical issues.
Be prepared to participate in open discussion about areas of our lives that interface with computers, problem solving, design, mathematics, algorithms, societal impact, and creative thinking.
In this class, you will often work individually, but more often work in a random group, or with a partner. You will read, reflect, write , share aloud, and journal about topics daily.
Newsletter on what to expect as far as grading, projects, what to bring.
